Prom Dos and Don'ts

Dos, Dont's, and Prom Etiquette

  •  Use nice words like please and thanks.
  •  Use the silverware properly. You start using the outside fork and work
  •  your way in.
  •  Don't use the wrong bread plate.
  •  Turn your fork upside down on the salad plate when you are finished.
  •  Turn your coffee cup upside down if you do not want any coffee.
  •  Put your napkin on your lap. Especially to keep from spilling on your prom
  •  dress.
  •  Don't put your napkin on the table until you are finished eating.
  •  Place your napkin on the back of your chair if you are leaving to use the ladies
  •  room.
  •  Wear a wrap or shawl over a strapless prom dress.
  •  Don't wear rings over your gloves.
  •  Wear your bracelet over your gloves.
  •  Take off your gloves during dinner.
  •  Don't remove your gloves at any other time than dinner.
  •  Don't spray hairspray anywhere other than the bathroom.
  •  Make all entrances with your date.
  •  Don't walk ahead of or behind your date.
  •  Wear body glitter so you sparkle during your grand dance.
  •  Drink lots of water to prevent bloating and flushing out of your
  •  system.
  •  Follow the head waiter to your table with your date behind you.
  •  Don't drink and drive.
  •  Go to prom with a date who will be kind and pull out your chair at dinner.
  •  Don't refresh your lipstick more than one time at the table.
  •  Reserve using your make-up powder in the ladies room only.
  •  Reserve the first and last dance for your date.
  •  Don't forget to tell your date how handsome he looks.
  •  Go with the girls to prom dance if you don't have a date. Think of it this way,
  •  "less stress".
  •  Dance with others at your prom dance when asked however, do not abandon
  •  your date the whole night.
  •  Be on time. Don't keep your nervous prom date waiting.
  •  Be the first person your date sees when he knocks on the door.
  •  Don't forget your dates boutonniere.
  •  Wear your best smelling perfume (but do not over do it)
  •  Don't fish for compliments.
  •  Accept compliments with a polite 'thank you' (rather than a I don't think so).
  •  Don't say anything you'll regret in the morning.
  •  Try on all prom dresses, prom accessories, and prom make-up at least a week in
  •  advance.
  •  Don't leave your date to be with your friends the whole night. He has a lot of time
  •  invested in this night, make it special.
  •  Don't break up with your boyfriend on prom night or prom week!!
  •  Don't make a scene, you'll mess up your make-up from crying.
  •  Make sure that you thank your date for dinner, IF it was good!
  •  EAT YOUR DINNER...remember that the guy paid a lot of money to take you
  •  out to a nice dinner before Prom. He won't think you are a pig.
