Every year fashion brings a new look, a new fad in prom dresses. There are also differences between States, regions and schools. Some years the cocktail-length prom dresses is the most popular, and other years long prom dresses will be the rage (most of the time long is the classic pick). Of course Black is always a good and dramatic color, but now pastels have made a comeback. If you aren't sure what you want, look in magazines and in department stores. Start looking into it early in the season (January?) to have a lot of time to decide what type of prom gown is perfect for you.

Going to see a dressmaker is one option to get your dream prom gown, but that may prove expensive and complicated. You would need to describe what you want or better yet bring a sketch. Then you will have to select a fabric, and agree in a fitting schedule for making your prom gown. Be careful, a dressmaker can be very expensive, and the prom dress you have "in your imagination" may not be what you end up with.

The best and more practical way to get an evening prom dress would be by shopping around. There are many stores that sell evening gowns, but most probably your best bet is to shop "on-line". The advantage of shopping on the internet is that you have access to "any" and "all" the dresses avilable. Evening dresses usually fit a little tight, so when in doubt, buy the next size up, is very easy to get a dress altered down, but impossible to alter it up. Besides, buying on-line you will always get a better deal.

The amount of money you spend will be up to you. But on the internet you will find lots of dresses at around $ 100.00 or about. Remember that the "on-line" stores not always have all models in stock, shop with time, do not wait until the last minute... is too stressing.
