Sizes and MeasuresProm Dress Sizes & Measuring TipsBe aware that evening and prom dresses sizes are different from regular clothing, I would suggest that you should buy a larger size than the one you use everyday. If necessary then you can contact a seamstress to do the alterations to the prom dress so it will fit you perfectly. As a rule you will need one size larger for evening and prom dresses than your jeans size, although this rule doesn't always apply. Remember that each prom dress manufacturer cuts dresses with slight differences, there is no standardized fitting chart. That's why is very important that you measure yourself before buying a formal prom dress. Before using the size charts, you must measure yourself with a tape measure. Remember to ask someone to help you with this task. Then, choose the size that is the most similar to your measurements. In case you find your measurements between sizes, opt for the next larger size because it is much easier to take a prom dress in than let it out. And don't feel obsessed over the numbers!! The gowns size won't be shown when wearing it. You will look and feel better in a dress that fits you, no matter its size. In order to take your measurements, be sure you follow this tips:
Keep the measuring tape close to your body, without setting it tight. Bust:To get this measurement, put the measuring tape under your arms, surrounding the fullest part of your bust. Waist:While keeping one finger between the tape and your body, surround your natural waistline at the point where your pants would usually ride. Hips:Standing with your heels together, measure around the fullest part of your hips, at about seven to nine inches below your natural waistline.
